how many squats
can you rep?

or how long you can hold one. or whether you can stack ten minutes at the bottom across a day. one screen does all three, and the camera decides which.

Hips at or below the knee line, the rep counts. Above it, nothing.

REPS Down through depth and back up. Each one counted, each one checked.
HOLDS Stay at depth and the count becomes a clock. Wall sits and squat holds, timed.
THE DAY Both totals carry across the day. Ten cumulative minutes at the bottom is a challenge worth having. Five two-minute breaks get you there, and scattered ones count the same as one long sit.

Same screen, no switch. It reads which one you’re doing. Not sure which to do? →

why squat at all

one movement,
three different jobs

The evidence is strongest somewhere different for each one. squattime measures all three, and the three below are all actually squats.

Mobility · the hold

20–40%

of walking-level muscle activity in your legs while you rest in a deep squat, against about 5% in a chair. Hadza hunter-gatherers are off their feet as many hours a day as office workers. They just don’t use chairs.

Blood sugar · the reps

23%

lower post-meal glucose response from 10 squats every 45 minutes across a sitting day, matching a 3-minute walk every 45 minutes, and beating one continuous 30-minute walk. Calories were held equal, so the contraction did it.

Strength · both

a week, two sets near failure. That’s the whole minimum. Light loads taken to failure build muscle comparably to heavy ones, and a bodyweight progression matched barbell squats in sedentary women. Holds add strength too, concentrated at the angle you hold.

Squatting is a supplement, not a cure. None of the three numbers above is a treatment, and none replaces anything a doctor prescribed. But 20 minutes a week is a remarkably low bar for the upside.
